A man in his 50s faces charges of murder and attempted murder after a harrowing incident at a farm in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire. The events unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday when police received a call about an attempted burglary at the property around 1:20 AM.
Upon arrival, officers made the grim discovery of a teenager with fatal gunshot wounds. Tragically, the victim did not survive. A second teenager, found nearby with a gunshot injury, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The investigation took a dramatic turn when police arrested the man in his 50s, suspected of being the shooter. He remains in police custody as inquiries continue. Additionally, a man in his 20s was apprehended on suspicion of aggravated burglary after his vehicle was stopped on the A6 later that day.
Interestingly, authorities had received an earlier report of a burglary at the same property around 3:30 PM on Tuesday. However, they are keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are linked.
Chief Superintendent Dave Kirby, the divisional commander, acknowledged the distress such an event can cause in communities. He expressed gratitude to those who have aided the investigation thus far and assured that a strong police presence would remain at the scene as the complex case unfolds.
An appeal has been made for anyone with potentially relevant information to come forward and assist the authorities confidentially in their pursuit of justice.
