'Gentle giant' named Kevin is now the world's tallest dog

There’s a new world record holder for the tallest dog on Earth.

Meet Kevin, a Great Dane from Iowa, known as “The Hawkeye State.” Kevin, at 3 years old, towers at an impressive 3 feet, 2 inches tall, according to Guinness World Records, which announced the news on Thursday.

Kevin resides in West Des Moines with his human parents, Tracey and Roger Wolfe, and his human siblings Alexander and Ava. The Wolfe family shares their home with three other dogs, four cats, and various chickens, goats, and horses.

Kevin got his name from the character Kevin in the popular 1990 Christmas movie “Home Alone.” Tracey Wolfe explained that Kevin was adopted after they lost their previous Great Dane, and a friend posted about the last puppy of a litter in need of a home.

Despite his size, Kevin is described as “the epitome of a gentle giant” by Tracey Wolfe. She mentioned that Kevin is friendly with other dogs, including small ones, although he can be afraid of the vacuum cleaner, jumping away whenever it approaches within 6 feet.

Kevin follows in the pawprints of Zeus, another Great Dane from Texas, who previously held the title of world’s tallest living dog. Zeus, standing 3 feet, 5.18 inches tall, passed away in September due to health complications.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Guinness notes that the shortest living dog currently is Pearl, a Chihuahua measuring 3.59 inches tall and 5 inches in length, weighing just 1.22 pounds.

Kevin’s gentle nature and impressive stature have earned him a place in the record books, continuing the legacy of remarkable dogs recognized by Guinness World Records.
